I'm working here in Guangzhou but I felt it, I was working then I felt dizzy.. I thought I was just really dizzy. I was the first one who noticed that our office was shaking. I told my Chinese officemates if they can feel it too.... nobody believed in me that it was an earthquake, they just laughed at me. Then they realized that it was really an earthquake because it became even stronger , the hanging plants, the projector, the picture frames were all moving even my milk tea was started to spilled out. Everyone became frightened and began to panic because we're in the 39th floor, the highest floor in our building.

What I did was... I just closed my eyes and prayed then suddenly the earthquake became weaker until it stopped.

The 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the center of China a couple of miles away from Guangzhou. Chinese people are preparing a lot for the Beijing Olympics but instead of having a celebration, it turned into mourning & weeping because it's almost less than 10,000 - 20,000 people died, and still counting. Our office decided to donate some amount to the China Red Cross for the victims of the killer quake.

There are universities collapsed with hundreds of students were buried alive, a hospital also collapsed with a hundred of people died too. Dozens of bodies of children were laid out on the ground, waiting for parents to identify them.

Honestly, I don't know if this is what God's will. China became very strict of releasing visas and the length of stay in their country to the foreigners who want to enter China because of the Olympics. For me, this is unreasonable because they also performed a discrimination to some other nationalities which is unlawful. So sad that they also don't have religion, after 2 decades, this kind of natural disaster came to China (after the severe winter last January which was experienced again after 50 years).

I hope that China will finally realize that violating human rights is not a good way of protecting your people... I'm sad for what happened to the country that I'm working in right now, but at the same time I pray for all the families who lost their family members.
